National Debt: DKK74,000 per person

Debt grows to 23% of GDP

Denmark’s national debt was DKK413bn at the end of 2011, 23 per cent of GDP and a DKK74,000 ($13,000) burden for every single resident of the country. Interest repayments alone were DKK17bn, 1 per cent of GDP.

National Bank governor Nils Bernstein stressed the importance of maintaining finance markets’ confidence in the Danish economy:

He urged the government to conduct a 'stability-oriented economic policy in the medium term including continuing reforms aimed at increasing the labour force'.
