Liberal legislation and an abundance of sperm donors have made Denmark a 'sperm hub' for childless women.
Specialist Svend Lindberg of the Copenhagen Fertility Centre, where 30 per cent of all customers are foreigners, said there are a number of good reasons why Denmark has become a hub for 'sperm tourism'.
"They come here either because they're single, lesbian, or looking for a blond, viking-type surrogate to provide sperm," he said.
According to Health Board figures, Danish sperm banks provided artificial insemination for 6,700 foreign women last year, although some sperm-banks have now warned they could be forced to relocate abroad if the government goes ahead with its threat to impose VAT on sperm.
