It’s full steam ahead for the Liberals. A new Voxmeter poll for news agency Ritzau gives the former ruling party 33.8 per cent of the vote, an increase of 7.1 per cent since the September election, and indicates a comfortable victory for the centre-left opposition if an election was held right now.
Political commentator Lotte Hansen said the poverty debate and ongoing crisis has made voters far more responsible and aware of the problems surrounding them.
"If they don’t want to swing too much towards the right then the Liberals are the best choice for those who believe it should pay to work," she said.
The Social Democrats and Socialist People's Party (SPP), the backbone of the new government, continue to shed votes. The SPP would win just 12 seats today and have been overtaken by their far-left ally, the Red/Green Alliance, by one seat.
